A relief can be made before breast cancer surgery, as a keepsake of your body as it is now. Or after a mastectomy, to honour the body that carried you through it. Both are equally worthy. The piece is made from a single photograph, in complete privacy, and no face is needed. You decide what the piece shows and what it leaves out. What is body wall art?
Body wall art is a wall hung artwork of the body's forms. At Ohtonen Studio it means a hand sculpted, three dimensional relief made from a single photograph onto a wooden panel. The photograph is never copied but interpreted by the artist, and every piece is one of a kind.
Is a relief a good gift? What about a wedding gift?
Yes. A relief is a personal gift for someone you love: a spouse, a partner, or a couple getting married. As a wedding gift for the bride it is quiet and lasting, made only for the two of you. A gift order can also be delivered directly to the recipient.
Can I have a piece made of my body before or after surgery?
Yes. A relief can be made of your body exactly as it is right now: before surgery or after it. You decide what the piece shows and what it leaves out.
Does the photograph need to show my face?
No. A face is never required, and you can crop it out for full anonymity. The artist only needs the forms of your body.
How does my photograph stay private?
Your photograph is sent over an encrypted connection to private storage in the EU, off this website. It is seen only by the artist, never shown or shared, and automatically deleted within about 30 days of your piece being finished.
How long does a piece take?
Every piece is made by hand in order of purchase, so the time depends on the queue. The current estimate is always shown in the delivery line on our pages.
